Sole voice of the Chitimacha people
for decades, among its last and finest basket weavers, language speakers and
historians. Her book "Sacred Beliefs of the Chitimacha" chronicled the
old ways as handed down to her by elders when she arrived on the Reservation in
1926 as my grandfather's wife.
