The wooden boat. My father was a boatbuilder,
but I come from a long line of builders of boats. My Chitimacha ancestors
traveled this watery world in the dugout canoe, and my Acadian forebears in the
piroque, bateau and skiff. Only wood possesses the fine pedigree to connect with
the native waters of my world.

My father in an early boat, somewhere on Lake Fausse Pointe.

Several views of the bateau my father built in 1962, which I still use today.

My first boat, a 14' 4" plywood runabout from a Glen-L Marine Design.
