“Native Waters” nominated for regional Emmy Award!

Louisiana Public Broadcasting’s documentary “Native Waters: A Chitimacha Recollection” has been nominated for a 2011 Suncoast Emmy Award.
The show was nominated in the category of Documentary-Cultural. The winners will be announced on Dec. 3 at ceremonies in Miami.
The documentary tells the story of Native Americans, the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, who were among the first people to inhabit Louisiana some 8,000 years ago in the Atchafalaya Basin of Louisiana.
Directed and produced by award-winning LPB Senior Producer Tika Laudun, this documentary was written and narrated by Chitimacha tribal member Roger Stouff and co-produced and written with Charles E. Richard, the Joseph P. Montiel Endowed Professor and Director of the Center for Moving Image Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
LPB’s Rex Fortenberry was the photographer and editor for the program. Special assistance was provided by Chitimacha Cultural Director Kimberly Walden.
